Getting started with Bundar

Connect a server you control, prepare it for deployments, and create your first application.

Bundar manages deployments to servers you own. It connects over SSH, uses Podman to build or run containers, and uses Caddy to route web applications and request HTTPS certificates. There is no Bundar agent to install on the server.

The first deployment

  1. Sign in, choose or create an organization, and open a project. The onboarding page offers a starting organization and project whose names you can edit. Every application belongs to a project.
  2. Add a server. You will need its host, SSH port and user, plus an SSH key that can log in to that account.
  3. Test the SSH connection, then install Podman. Install the web proxy as well if you plan to run web applications. Firewalld setup is optional.
  4. Open the project and choose Add application. Pick a template, a Git repository, or a container image, configure the application, and choose a ready server.
  5. For a web application, set its container port and optionally add a domain. Review domain and HTTPS setup before sending public traffic.

Bundar currently runs server setup on Linux systems with apt (Debian or Ubuntu) or dnf (CentOS, RHEL, Rocky Linux, or AlmaLinux). Remote setup and deployment use systemd, so the SSH account must be able to install packages and manage the required system services. Check your host's permissions and firewall before starting.

Applications need a server that is online and has Podman running. Web applications also need the Caddy proxy installed; workers do not need a domain or proxy. For the full workflow, see Add a server and Add an application.
